Cosmos
Shadow Play
The space between
I try pushing Sun into the middle of night, seducing full moons to meet me in daylight.
But Sun refuses darkness. Moons refuse to stray.
So I dance between the two, drenched in shadow play.
The Morning After
Seeing the sun
Last night, I heard a noise.
The noise was you opening my front door.
When I saw your face, I collapsed to the floor with joy.
I buried my head in my hands to cry.
Composure regained, I ran to you and hugged you tight, so tight that I almost lost my breath.
Today, I see the sun.
The oblivious sun shouts at my window, telling me you were only a dream.
Oblivious sun, you are my nightmare.
Oblivious sun, you've wakened me to reality.
Oblivious sun, I turn my face from you.
Oblivious sun, make way for the darkness.
Oblivious sun, please honor the night's moon.
Let the moon protect the memories of my perfect dreams ended too soon.
Stargazing
1 night, 3 words
I keep company with stars and moons, whispering to Jupiter, laughing with Neptune.
I reach for constellations too far from me, addicted to their illusions, fascinated by their union.
Drinking from moon-kissed bottles, enamored by cosmic confusion.
The space between all the words we didn't say equate to the number of stars that would fit into the gap between Jupiter and the sun.
That's 466.73 million miles of moments we'll never have.
I should have said I love you every time I had the chance.
Since you've been away, I've looked up from Earth, watching stars illuminate the night skies.
And now, after all this time, I see that we, together, were interstellar.
We can never say goodbye.
Because you’re always looking back at me.
I've seen these same stars in your eyes.
